Were the drinks cheap at least? :)

Awe, this is a little odd, and yet very sad. Hope you are well!! Miss you - D

Wow, great write-up. That place really sounds like something. I wonder if the same folks are always in there...

I was actually going to do a bitter blog about Japanese marriage and how marriage is just rammed down your throat here...but I also feel sorry for them. I think so many Japanese housewives are very lonely and the couples just stay together "for the kids" or because of what a scandal a divorce would be. I can't make fun of them either.

Aislin

You have some of the craziest adventures. Did you get any fish at the market?

billywest

I've met the type you've described here on several occasions and have reflected on all the times I've seen little boys get treated like gods by their parents while the daughters were treated like 2nd-class citizens in their own homes.

Sarah

Fascinating story! At least it wasn't a swingers bar (was it??).

Kevin

Kwool - Sounds like you may have stumbled on a "happening bar". Only in Tokyo!

"...half of me wanted to tell her to go do something constructive with her life besides all of this moaning and groaning and miserable pandering for attention."

Sometimes I feel that way while reading your entries. But fuck, don't we all bitch and moan and bitch and moan and bitch and moan. Also, I'm acutally kind of jealous of your life(style).
So, yeah, I'm ending this underminey comment riiiiight now. Well, only after I say I do really like your blog. Moaning and groaning included.

Tokyo Cowgirl

EGC- Great comment, even if it was "underminey". I do bitch and moan too much, especially for someone who has a free place to live and all of the other wonderful-ness I'm so lucky to have (but can I tell you that my checking account is overdrawn? Damn Wachovia and damn my inability to keep track of my US banking account!) See? there I go again, bitching and moaning and whining and groaning....

This is a really well written post. I've seen a lot of crazy stuff in Japan but that was definitely an awkward situation. I think your insight is spot on.
